Creative Jump Start Begins & My "One Little Word"

With this new year comes two renewals in my life... number one being Creative Jump Start, with Head Jump Starter, Nathalie Kalbach. I honestly debated as to whether or not I would participate in 2016 (the price has gone up considerably), but was thrown over to signing up when I saw that Paula Phillips would be one of the instructors. I'm a big fan of her work, and wouldn't want to miss out on her class. You can sign up here for classes with twenty-four artists with the theme of Art in Translation.

Second is "One Little Word". Ali Edwards is the originator of this workshop and you can read about it here. I've never taken this actual class by her, but do my own journal and projects using my one little word... which this year is...

Ali's workshop sounds wonderful, and if my funds where unlimited, I'm sure I would sign up for this one, too. As it is, I've had to do this one on my own for the last four years, but please check it out. I've taken some of her other classes and they were well worth the cost.

In starting out the new year, I'm sure we all need a bit of inspiration and a little push to get going. Please take a look at these two sources. You may find what you need to start your year off right!

Thanks for stopping by... I so appreciate it!

One Little Word 2015

My One Little Word for 2015 is TRUST. Being backed up with all my projects this year, I finally remodeled my wall hanging and added my new word. I haven't done Ali's classes or notebook, but just try to incorporate my word into my life. I chose a word from Bible scripture that I believe is something I need... some area that needs improved or strengthened.

This wall hanging has gone through some major changes this year. I started with pulling all of 2014's papers and embellishments off. On my Kaisercraft Curiosity paper, I laid down some Prima Clear Gesso by Finnabair just for strength. I applied her Texture Paste in Platinum using a Crafter's Workshop Tile Texture stencil. While that was drying, I cut an Alterations Ornate Frame from light chipboard and gave it a thick coat of the Platinum TP. When everything was dry, I assembled layers of papers, two Alterations Distressed Doily, Prima and I Am Roses flowers, cheesecloth, Spanish moss, May Arts Burlap String loops and Alterations Spring Greenery leaves. The gorgeous butterfly was a gift from Linda at The Funkie Junkie Boutique.

If you would like to see how this all started, please look here, here and here!

Thank you for stopping by!

Run Is The Word

This is a post with
a couple side stories beginning with my word for the year... "run". Yesterday while I was waiting for our first Creative Jump Start class to come live, I went to Julie Balzer's blog to see what she has been doing since she was to be our first Jump Starter of 2014. Her post here, was titled "One Little Word 2014", and I immediately thought... shoot, I forgot to pick mine. Well... moving on, our class came on and I was thrown into high gear with ideas for projects... (I LOVE CJS!!!) Making a list of what I wanted to create throughout January, I added my One Little Word project. I know Ali Edwards' concept is to do a journal that you work on through the year. (Last year I choose the word "Press" and made a journal for it here, here, and here, that I ended up giving away... which I felt was a better thing for me to do than to use it myself... and I still concentrated on my word and let it become a part of my thinking and doing. ) So I decided to make some thing I could hang above my desk, so that I could keep my thoughts on my word and let it do it's work in my life. Here it is...

I took my word from
the Bible verse Hebrews 12: 1. I feel I've been slack in a lot of ways and need to get moving... run.

The base of my wall hanging
is canvas. I made the hanger from natural jute, the papers are from Prima's Engraver collection.

The flowers are from Prima
and Petaloo. The metals are by Idea-ology... time piece, game spinner, long fasteners and type charm. The ink is Vintage Photo Distress.

Second story...
Before I began work on
the One Little Word wall hanging, I thought I'd better tackle the thank you cards that were also on the list. Here's a sneak peek...

I have to thank Julie
and Ali for the inspiration and the six projects I was able to create yesterday. Even though I didn't actually use the techniques Julie taught or do a journal like Ali suggested, just watching them gave me motivation. More than all, I thank my God for the abilities He's given me to perform the tasks and to run the race. Now, to just do it with patience!
