Our Two Birthday Girls

 Faith's

June and July are the birthday months of two of our granddaughters. Our daughter usually combines their parties into one since they are so close. This year the party was in June, which was closer to the date of little Faith's birthday. Thirteen year old (almost) Katie will be away at church camp on her actual date. These are the cards I created for them.

 Katie's

Katie's card is a re-make of one I created a while ago. I've always loved this card, and held onto for a number of years. I thought her thirteenth year was an appropriate time to pass it on to another. I did, however,  change the florals, adding more roses and rosebuds in her favorite color, along with some die cut, heat embossed, inked file folder leaves.

The Girl's Birthdays

Two of our granddaughter's birthdays are at the end of June and beginning of July, so our daughter wisely combines their party. Of course, in a short while that won't work for her, but at the age they are now, it does.

Both of these cards are make-overs from my older card stash. Believe me, you wouldn't recognize the original as being so. These are totally made-over except for the bases.

New trim, new Prima and I Am Roses flowers...

and a new focal image. This is another of those gifts from The Funkie Junkie Boutique... both the image and the fairy charm.

I cut up this spray of flowers to go farther. I still have half of it left to use on another project. It came in one of the Special Delivery kits I bought from Prima awhile ago. You should check those out... they're a real bargain if you love Prima goodies like I do.

I made the frame by cutting with two Spellbinders' Deckled Rectangles. The doily was cut with Sizzix Vintage Doily. As you can see... lots of layering with 3-D foam tape. Addiction?

The base that's mostly covered up looks like My Mind's Eye paper, so I tried to match it by using their Lost & Found 6x6 paper pad of Madison Avenue. A perfect fit!

Now this card is a little more recognizable, but still pretty well covered over. Thankfully I have enough papers to come up with a pattern that's close.

I added the piece with the 3 which is October Afternoon cut with Spellbinders Labels One. The word stickers are Authentique Diction. These puppies are really old. The three green rhinestone were another gift from FJB and matched the tiny one that was already on the heart.

I updated with an image cut from an 8x8 paper pad of Graphic 45's called An ABC Primer. I re-arranged my flowers... took out some and added two from I Am Roses along with May Arts ivory burlap string bows. I believe that green leaf stick pin came from Maya Road and the little roses came in one of the old Pixie Dust kits. These cards are just a riot of memories. I love using up my stash!!!

ATC Creating with the Girls

Penny - age 11

 Dixie - age 5

 Mine - ageless

Two of our granddaughters spent this last weekend with us, and with our daughter-in-law and her baby girl who live with us, the Penmaker was totally out numbered. After watching several cartoons, I broke out some supplies and we tried a technique I saw the other day on YouTube.

We cut watercolor paper to 3.5" x 4.5", sprayed with water, and dropped on blobs of mica powders. More water, more mica. Dried with the heat tool. Now drops and sprays of Lindy's Starbursts. Heat tool. Some stamping with Archival Jet Black ink. Heat tool. A bit of Stickles here and there and Distress Ink sponged on the edges. A fun project and simple enough for 5 and 11 year old crafters.

Tickled Pink Layout And A Special Pen

Our two oldest granddaughters
have both turned ten years old. Katie (in pink) last July and Penny just last week. Oh my, is time playing tricks on me? I really believe they were babies not more than a year ago!

I created this layout in honor
of Penny's special day and of the friendship that our two sweethearts share. May they always be this close is my prayer.

I used a mix of papers
from Prima's Delight collection along with a few odds and ends that seemed to blend quite well, like this button from Prima's Lyric collection. It's tied with some May Arts ivory burlap string. The Tickled Pink sentiment is Authentique's diction stickers. The postage stamp is from the My Mind's Eye Heirloom ephemera pack...

and the little heart was
cut from paper in the Heirloom 6 x 6 paper pad. The gems are Prima's Say It In Crystals.

The French Lace doilies are
from my stash. The large pink flowers are by Prima... I think they are from the Lyric collection.

I started with two layers
of the DP on top of a 12 x 12 sheet of cardboard (quite thick - I must have gotten it in an order of paper because of the size... I always save my packaging materials to recycle). Added some Golden molding paste using a Ronda Palazzari stencil from Crafters Workshop called Confetti (I especially love the tiny hearts that are in the mix). Gave it all a misting of Lindy's Stamp Gang in Salt Water Taffy Starburst and then some of Tattered Rose Glimmer Mist from Tattered Angels.

The larger light pink flower
is Prima Lyric collection. All the other ones are from Petaloo. The foliage here was made with Martha Stewart punches Oak Leaf and Medium Branch.

This flower cluster includes
foliage made with Sizzix Branch with Leaves. The Distress Ink I used is Frayed Burlap (again!!!)

The Penmaker created this
special pen for a friend of our sons. The pen kit is the mini bolt action bullet pen that he's done so many of lately.

The wood is Orange Osage...
you would think it would be more orange than yellow... but apparently not. We were both surprised at this color!

This is one pen I was able
to help with as he had me do the graphics for him. I understand that this is the family pet and I had three photos of the dog to work with... quite fun actually! I opted for black and white to blend better with the gun metal.

Birthdays And Penturners...

what a weekend!!!
Are you finding that in spite of the unusual weather we've been having, you are really busy with activities? We certainly are... and happy for it, because most of that activity has included family. Granddaughters Katie and Faith are having birthdays. Our daughter had one big party for both, as Faith is just turning one and really isn't into all the celebrating yet. But... what a bummer... can you believe, when we got to their house, my camera batteries went dead... so no photos.
So I'll just show you Katie's card...

With her turning ten,
I thought I'd go with a more feminine look, and used the Prima Lyric collection. It's loaded with beautiful images of chandeliers, roses,  music scores and all sorts of the girly things Katie loves.

The flowers and leaves are
all from I Am Roses. Even though I have the Lyric collection flowers, I thought these were prettier.

Our second big event
of the weekend, was a penturners gathering in Oakwood Village at Woodcraft.

We met a lot of fellow
enthusiasts, had a discussion about starting a group in our area and had a drawing for prizes. The Penmaker and I both received IAP caps, which we are thrilled to have. (I was really wanting to win one when we went to the Richmond gathering, but instead won a package of very high end pen blanks.)

Our speaker, Glenn McCullough,
did a demo on turning a calligraphy pen. Now this is something I could get into! These are great for art journaling.

Afterward, Glenn was
encouraging me to get started turning my own, and he even gave me this beauty as further incentive. (Thank you so much, Glenn!)
Hummm... I am really considering making these!

Jim Fischer presented
me with this fabulous bud vase... turned from segmented wood. (Thanks again, Jim!)

Here's another shot of
it along with my cap. The vase has a plastic insert for water, so it can actually be used for fresh flowers.
Sorry to be so long
with this post... but I really wanted to share these great wood pieces with you! It might be something some of you may want to try, too!
