50th Anniversary Pocket Card & Some Vacation Memories

Hi friends! As promised, I'm back from our respite in the south. Thankfully, the Penturner's Gathering came when it did for we really needed some time away to recoup. We headed down to Virginia last week, then took in the Mid-Atlantic Penturner's Gathering on the weekend. This years was fantastic and The Penmaker and I even won some great door prizes. That alone was worth the trip. From there we went across North Carolina to Gatlinburg, TN. While we usually rent a cabin or condo, for something different (and due to the suddenness of the trip) we stayed at an inn we have enjoyed in the past (lots of good memories on this journey). I had a wonderful time at Your Scrapbook Superstore in Pigeon Forge and for a treat, we saw Captain America: Civil War in the new theatre (reclining seats).

Now back to business... a 50th anniversary card made with papers from the Kaisercraft Provincial collection.

I use a bunch of dies on this card... from Spellbinders - Classic Circles, Scalloped Circles, 

Alterations - Mini Hearts, Vintage Market Alphabet,  Ornate Frame #2.

I bought the gold paper at Hobby Lobby and the small scalloped circle was cut from a gold metallic burlap tag my DIL gave me for Mother's Day.

The flowers and leaves are by Petaloo, 

the lace trim came from Pat Catans,

and the gold metal butterfly is from Lindy's Stamp Gang.

Hope Chest Card

Hi dear friends!

The other day I

was playing around with the new Pink Paislee Hope Chest collection I bought when we were in Virginia, and created this card. It really isn't what I had intended to make... just kept thinking of some things to try and liked how it was looking.

 I started with a Recollections 

kraft cardstock base and put on two mats of Core'dinations Kraft-Core from the Nostalgic collection. Topped those with a Alterations Vintage Doily cut from ivory cardstock. I picked up a scrap of the Hope Chest paper left over from Sarah's birthday card I made a few days ago. Punched it and added regular size eyelets... then laced them with some thin turquoise organza ribbon. Next I made a pocket with the Alterations Pocket envelope, altering it slightly by cutting the top flap off in order to keep the pocket open. Punched it also, put on two eyelets and tied on a bow of the same ribbon. Glued on an old Girls Paperie glittered clock charm, and tucked in a piece from the Hope Chest Paper Goods pack. I gave this an eyelet and ribbon adornment too! Then I grabbed up two more of those Paper Goods die cuts, inked them with the same Vintage Photo Distress Ink I had been putting on everything else, and tucked them in behind that laced pieced that I popped up with 3-D foam adhesive.

Now to give it a

few flowers. I reached for the Prima box and the one containing the white I Am Roses blooms and green leaves. While I was at it, I thought I would add a couple Dear Lizzy metal rose brads... love those things!

To finish it off,

I glued on two Momenta metal corners.

As per my usual,

I left the tag blank until I decide where this card is going and what sentiment will be appropriate. I'll tell you... this is one heavy card!

We are off on another

trip this weekend. The Penmaker decided we needed to attend the Mid-Atlantic Penturner's Gathering near Richmond, Virginia. Since this isn't that far from Fredericksburg and the Scrapdoodles shop, I heartily agreed... if we could make a slight side trip. So there may be some scrappy shopping in my future.

There Are Times We Need To Be Flexible

Hi friends!

There are times in our life that don't go quite as we had planned. That's not a bad thing... it just means we have to be flexible. Take our Florida vacation, for instance. We had our reservations made, the routes mapped out and some of our clothes packed when we realized the weather in Orlando was changing... temperature declining with a promise of rain. The day before we were to leave, we made a mad scramble to cancel and reschedule. We ended up in a beautiful log cabin in the Smokey Mountains, nestled among the pine trees on a west facing slope. 

I have to admit

that the temperature may not have been as warm had we gone on farther south, but this cabin would have been hard to beat. Besides that, I was able to visit my favorite shop in Pigeon Forge...

 The Penmaker and

I have both been sick with sinus headaches since we've gotten back home, and I haven't been able to do much as far as crafting goes. I did have a great spot to work at in the cabin loft, and got a few pages done in my Christmas album. I'll show you those tomorrow.

X-Treme

Do you save all

your vacation receipts? I generally keep those from hotels. If we want to stay at that particular one again, we have the phone number and a reference as to cost. But why did I put away this receipt from Disney for some gifts we bought our kids? I haven't any idea, but it sure brought back memories of that day. I can remember leaving our hotel and taking photos of each other out in front, the six of us having breakfast at Wolfgang Puck, shopping at Disney Marketplace and then the sad farewell as the Penmaker and I drove off toward Gatlinburg and the kids toward home. I've gotten a lot out of this little old receipt... I have to keep this gem!

This is that awful

background I started here and gave up on. This baby had about twelve layers of gesso, paint, distress stain, inks and molding paste piled on it before I finally liked what I was looking at.

I loved this X from

the Basic Grey Clippings sheet 5th Avenue. I did a little X-tra inking and doodling to get the look I wanted. Family adventures are from Authentique's Diction stickers. I used Crafters Workshop Mini Time Travel and Mini Tile Texture stencils.

Here is that little

slip of paper that caused all those memories to come flooding back to me.

I'm grateful I didn't throw it away!!!

Back Home

Just a quick post

to say we are back home after a most enjoyable stay in the mountains of Virginia. Our dear friends gave us the use of their condo at the Massanutten Resort near Harrisonburg. This area saw some of the most brilliant of Stonewall Jackson's maneuvering tactics during our American Civil War, and we, once again, took full advantage of our stay to visit these sites.

A couple more vacation

photos... I'm still re-living the dream. This is in the new T-Rex Restaruant in Downtown Disney Marketplace. We sat in the Ice Age Room and after a few minutes in there the changes of the colors on the ice started to make some of us headachy. Other than that it was a fantastic experience.

tried a different room. This guy was right above us and when he turned, his mouth opened up over my head. Yikes!!!

Wish I would have taken

this before the Penmaker started digging in... these waffles were unbelivable... covered in whipped cream with banana slices and fresh strawberries. Yummmm!

Disneyworld Adventure

While I'm writing this

in my snug craft room, it's snowing like crazy outside and I'm remembering being in Florida. 

We made this teacup (the 

yellow one) spin so fast that we couldn't walk straight when we got out.

We had such a wonderful

time together, that I wanted the kids to always remember it.

So I decorated these

Michaels wood frames for them and added our photo with the castle in the background. The paper is from an older Fancy Pants 8x8 Designer Pad called The Daily Grind. I thought he doodles coordinated well with the Disney cartoon characters and the color was a perfect match with the blue on the 3-D castle sticker. The black alphas are Authentique Petite Type Squares.

Cynthia Mending Wool In Red

While we were in Tennessee,

I paid a visit (several actually) to my favorite store in Pigeon Forge, Your Scrapbook Superstore.

 I bought quite a few sheets of 

paper there and one was this BoBunny Wild Berry Journal. I combined it here with a sheet from the October Afternoon 5 & Dime 8x8 Paper Pad and ivory cardstock.

The button card is from

the October Afternoon Farmhouse "Button Box" sheet. The buttons, from my stash, are tied with Natural May Arts Burlap String. The blossoms and leaf in the bottom corner are from I Am Roses. The lace is from my stash.

This mending wool card

came in the Farmhouse Miscellany pack. I wrapped it with a fabric scrap then wound it with Red May Arts Burlap String. The small image is from the Farmhouse "Attic Trunk" sheet.

The seam binding for my

bow was purchased from Prairie Bird Boutique and the rose is Recollections.

A Few Vacation Photos

How can a two week

vacation set me so far behind in everything? I'm hoping to see light at the end of the tunnel in the next couple days. In the mean time, let me show you some of our photos...

Our first day in Florida,

the Penmaker and I went to Universal Studios while the kids went to some places they wanted to see. This was the first time for just the two of us to visit the park. We have always gone with our kids and this was a totally new experience. 

I'm not getting on that!
